Description
Strong Buffered Acid Cleaner for Terracotta – VIACEM®
Efflorescence, cement residues and limescale deposits require specific terracotta descaling cleaning, especially after installation or building work. VIACEM® is a buffered acid cleaner for terracotta designed to remove cement slurry residues, cement deposits, efflorescence and paint residues. In addition, it removes limescale deposits that can form on outdoor terracotta floors due to weathering.
When to use it
VIACEM® is ideal for post-installation cleaning of terracotta floors and for cleaning after building work. In particular, it helps remove efflorescence, cement deposits, paint residues and heavy cement slurry residues. It is also suitable for seasonal cleaning of outdoor terracotta floors affected by limescale deposits caused by weathering.
What it does
VIACEM® provides a strong descaling and limescale-removing action on compatible terracotta surfaces. It removes cement-based residues and deposits, efflorescence and limescale. In addition, when diluted with an equal part of water, it can neutralise surfaces after previous alkaline cleaning treatments.
How it works
VIACEM® is a strong buffered acid cleaner based on hydrochloric acid, corrosion inhibitors and anti-fuming surfactants. Compared with conventional muriatic acid, it releases fewer corrosive fumes. Moreover, it emulsifies solid dirt more effectively and provides a more controlled dissolving action.
Use the product undiluted on heavy, stubborn deposits and limescale, as well as on substantial cement slurry residues. Alternatively, dilute it with an equal part of water for normal descaling and limescale removal or to neutralise surfaces after previous alkaline cleaning.
Practical advantage
Using VIACEM® undiluted or diluted allows you to adapt the cleaning action to the type and amount of deposit. Furthermore, compared with conventional muriatic acid, its buffered formulation provides a more controlled dissolving action and greater emulsifying power on solid dirt while releasing fewer corrosive fumes.
Specific uses
VIACEM® is specifically formulated for descaling terracotta surfaces. Use it for post-installation and post-construction cleaning to remove efflorescence, cement deposits, paint residues and heavy cement slurry residues. It is also suitable for removing limescale deposits from outdoor terracotta floors and for neutralising surfaces after previous alkaline cleaning.
Shelf life
VIACEM® is designed for descaling and limescale-removing cleaning; it does not provide a protective surface treatment. Keep the container tightly closed, store it between 0°C and +30°C and avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight. Under these conditions, the product has a 2-year shelf life.
Technical limitations
- Do not use on natural stone, terrazzo, concrete, cement-based agglomerates or materials that are not acid-resistant.
- Do not allow the product to pool or remain standing on the surface.
- Do not use in pressure washers.
- Protect metal surfaces and all materials sensitive to strong acids from contact with the product and its fumes.
- Before use, test the product on a small area to check the material’s resistance.
How to use
Before application, test the product on a small area to check the material’s resistance to VIACEM®. The product can be used undiluted or diluted with water, depending on the type of deposit and the cleaning required.
- Undiluted: for heavy, stubborn limescale deposits and substantial cement slurry residues.
- Diluted with an equal part of water: for cleaning that requires a normal descaling and limescale-removing action and for neutralising surfaces after previous alkaline cleaning.
How to use the product
- Apply VIACEM® evenly to the surface and, where possible, leave it to work for a few minutes.
- Scrub the surface with a BROWN BUFFER PAD, BROWN DISC, nylon brush, TYNEX DISC or carborundum brush until the dirt and deposits have been removed.
- Repeat the cleaning process if necessary.
- Always rinse thoroughly with plenty of water.
Approximate coverage
Coverage varies according to the type and amount of deposits and the absorbency of the material:
- for intensive cleaning: 1 litre per 3–6 m²;
- for normal cleaning: 1 litre per 8–12 m².

Is VIACEM® suitable for post-installation cleaning of terracotta?
Yes. VIACEM® is specifically designed for post-installation and post-construction cleaning of terracotta. Its descaling action helps remove cement residues, efflorescence, paint residues and heavy cement slurry residues.
Does VIACEM® remove efflorescence from terracotta?
Yes. VIACEM® removes efflorescence from terracotta surfaces, particularly during post-installation and post-construction descaling cleaning.
Does VIACEM® remove cement residues and deposits?
Yes. VIACEM® can remove cement deposits and heavy cement slurry residues from terracotta. For heavy and stubborn deposits, use the product undiluted.
Does VIACEM® remove limescale deposits from outdoor terracotta?
Yes. VIACEM® is suitable for seasonal cleaning of outdoor terracotta floors affected by limescale deposits caused by weathering. For heavy and stubborn limescale deposits, use the product undiluted.
Should VIACEM® be used undiluted or diluted?
Use VIACEM® undiluted on heavy, stubborn deposits and limescale, as well as on substantial cement slurry residues. Dilute it with an equal part of water for normal descaling and limescale removal or to neutralise surfaces after previous alkaline cleaning.
Can VIACEM® neutralise surfaces after alkaline cleaning?
Yes. Dilute VIACEM® with an equal part of water to neutralise surfaces after previous alkaline cleaning.
How long should VIACEM® be left to work?
After applying VIACEM® to the surface, leave it to work for a few minutes where possible. Then scrub until the dirt and deposits have been removed. Repeat the cleaning process if necessary and always rinse thoroughly with plenty of water.
Can VIACEM® be used with a pressure washer?
