Description
Descaling Cleaner for Polished Porcelain Tiles – GRES BRILL®
GRES BRILL® is a specific cleaner for the routine maintenance of polished porcelain tiles, developed to keep glossy surfaces clean, bright, and visually uniform over time. Its advanced formula helps remove and prevent limescale film, water marks, and dull areas caused by household water, while preserving the original shine of polished porcelain tiles, honed porcelain surfaces, and glazed ceramic floors.
Although polished porcelain tile is compact and low-porosity, it remains highly sensitive to mineral residues found in household water. During regular cleaning, especially in homes with hard water, calcium and magnesium gradually settle on the surface. As a result, an opaque mineral film forms and reduces the natural shine of the floor, making the surface look dull and uneven. This effect is very similar to the cloudy residue often seen on shower glass.
In many cases, greasy contamination can also build up over time. Foot traffic, kitchen vapors, and unsuitable cleaners increase the visibility of streaks and make the floor harder to maintain. Therefore, using a cleaner specifically designed for polished porcelain tile is essential if you want to descale effectively without leaving surface residues behind.
Polished porcelain tile is highly appreciated for its elegant shine and premium visual impact. However, during routine cleaning, one of the most common issues is the formation of limescale film caused by household water, especially in areas with hard water. Over time, these mineral deposits create dull spots, increase visible streaks, and reduce the original brilliance of the surface.
GRES BRILL® is a concentrated descaling cleaner for polished porcelain tile, designed for regular and periodic maintenance of glossy porcelain, honed finishes, and glazed ceramic surfaces. It removes and prevents limescale build-up without affecting the appearance of the material.
Recommended Uses
GRES BRILL® is recommended for:
- daily and routine cleaning of polished porcelain tile;
- honed porcelain and marble-effect porcelain surfaces;
- glazed ceramic floors and wall coverings;
- surfaces affected by water marks and mineral film;
- environments exposed to hard household water.
It is also recommended once or more per month on matte porcelain tiles, using the standard dilution, to help reduce limescale film caused by water. It can be used as an alternative to or together with GRES LINDO®.
What It Does
GRES BRILL® works as a descaling cleaner for polished porcelain tile and helps:
- remove mineral residues and limescale film;
- prevent streaks and water spots;
- preserve the original shine and color of the surface;
- clean thoroughly without leaving residues or surface film;
- dry quickly without rinsing during routine cleaning;
- help keep grout lines cleaner over time.
How It Works
GRES BRILL® is formulated to target limescale residues selectively, dissolving and removing mineral salts deposited during regular cleaning with household water.
The product does not contain strong acids such as hydrochloric or phosphoric acid. Therefore, it provides effective yet controlled cleaning action suitable for frequent maintenance of polished porcelain surfaces. At the recommended dilutions, it dries quickly and leaves no streaks.
Cost Efficiency
GRES BRILL® is a highly concentrated cleaner used at very low dilutions. Consequently, a single bottle provides many cleaning cycles. Regular use also reduces the need for intensive restoration cleaning and simplifies the long-term maintenance of polished porcelain tile floors.
Long-Lasting Results
Continuous use of GRES BRILL® helps keep polished porcelain tile bright, even, and easier to clean, while slowing down the formation of limescale film and reducing visible streaks and water marks.
Technical Advice
For proper maintenance of polished porcelain tile, we recommend performing at least one monthly wash with GRES LINDO®, especially in kitchens.
This helps remove greasy film caused by cooking vapors and foot traffic, which can make streaks and dull areas more visible even on glossy surfaces.
If the floor appears very streaky, dull, or difficult to maintain, layered residues from poor post-installation cleaning or film-forming products may be present. In these cases, we recommend an intensive cleaning treatment with POWER DET® before restarting routine maintenance with GRES BRILL®.
Technical Limitations
GRES BRILL® must not be used on:
- slate;
- limestone surfaces;
- polished marble and terrazzo;
- acid-sensitive natural stone.
Always follow the instructions shown on the product label.

How to use
GRES BRILL® is a concentrated descaling cleaner for porcelain tile and should preferably be diluted in water.
Depending on the dilution and application method, it can be used for:
- routine descaling maintenance cleaning
- deep descaling cleaning to remove limescale film and mineral residues caused by hard household water
Routine descaling cleaning (maintenance)
When to use it
Routine cleaning is recommended for:
- keeping surfaces already visually clean bright and uniform;
- preventing limescale deposits caused by household water;
- preventing streaks, water marks and dull areas;
- polished porcelain tile, lappato porcelain tile and glazed ceramic floors.
Recommended dilution
20–50 cc of GRES BRILL® in 5 litres of water
(about half to one espresso cup)
Application procedure
- Apply the solution like a regular floor cleaner.
- Clean using a well-wrung microfiber cloth or mop.
- No rinsing is required.
- If residues or streaks remain, increase the dilution.
👉 This method helps keep the surface descaled and bright, slowing down the formation of limescale film.
Deep descaling cleaning (mineral decontamination)
When to use it
Deep cleaning is recommended when porcelain tile shows:
- layered limescale film caused by hard household water;
- persistent streaks visible in backlight;
- dull or uneven surfaces;
- mineral build-up that reduces the shine of polished porcelain tile.
Recommended dilution
170–250 cc of GRES BRILL® in 5 litres of water
(about 1 glass in a 5 L bucket)
Application procedure
During application, it is recommended to use protective gloves.
- Spread the solution generously over the surface.
- Work on small areas at a time.
- Leave for 4–5 minutes, preventing the product from drying.
- Scrub using a rough sponge or MELAMINE BUFFER PAD.
- Remove dirt and residues using microfiber cloths.
- Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
- Repeat the treatment if necessary.
Approximate coverage
The coverage of GRES BRILL® depends on:
- type of cleaning (routine or deep cleaning);
- amount of limescale film present;
- water hardness;
- application method.
📌 The indicated coverage refers to surfaces that already appear visually clean when rinsed with clean water.
Under standard conditions, with 5 litres of prepared solution and clean washing water, it is possible to clean approximately 100 m² of surface.
Coverage for routine cleaning
1 L = 2,000 – 5,000 m²
Coverage for deep cleaning
1 L = 400 – 580 m²
Actual coverage may decrease on heavily contaminated surfaces or when the treatment must be repeated.

How does GRES BRILL® work on polished porcelain tile?
GRES BRILL® works by removing mineral deposits such as calcium and magnesium that build up during routine cleaning and create a dull surface film. As a result, the surface becomes more uniform, brighter and less prone to streaks visible in backlight.
How does GRES BRILL® help prevent limescale film on porcelain tile?
During routine cleaning, GRES BRILL® dissolves and removes mineral residues before they can build up. With regular use, it helps prevent progressive limescale deposits and slows down the formation of dull film, water marks and surface greying.
What is the difference between GRES BRILL® and common supermarket cleaners?
Many generic cleaners are not designed to remove limescale and often leave residues that make streaks worse over time. GRES BRILL®, instead, is specifically formulated for polished porcelain tile and works as a gentle descaling cleaner, keeping surfaces clean without leaving surface film.
Why should GRES BRILL® not be used on slate and polished marble?
GRES BRILL® is formulated for ceramic surfaces and porcelain tile. On delicate natural materials such as slate, marble and polished limestone surfaces, it may alter the finish or create dull areas. Specific cleaners should be used on these surfaces.
When is it better to use POWER DET® instead of GRES BRILL®?
POWER DET® is recommended when the floor is heavily contaminated and shows:
- persistent streaks and film visible in backlight;
- wax residues or film-forming cleaner residues;
- post-installation dirt or improper post-installation cleaning;
- contamination that cannot be removed with routine maintenance.
In these cases, a recovery cleaning treatment with POWER DET® + BLUE BUFFER PAD is recommended before restarting routine maintenance with GRES BRILL®.
Can GRES BRILL® also be used on matt porcelain tile?
Yes. GRES BRILL® can also be used 1–2 times per month on matt porcelain tile, especially in kitchens to remove and prevent greasy film caused by cooking fumes.
Why use GRES BRILL® for porcelain tile cleaning?
Because one of the most common issues in porcelain tile maintenance is hard water limescale, which creates dull film and visible water marks. GRES BRILL® helps reduce this problem and keeps surfaces brighter and more uniform over time.
Can GRES BRILL® be used with floor cleaning machines and steam mops?
Yes. GRES BRILL® can be used with domestic floor cleaning machines and scrubber dryers. Thanks to its low-concentration formula, it does not damage the equipment when used according to the recommended dilutions.
Does GRES BRILL® make floors shiny like a wax?
No. GRES BRILL® is not a wax and does not create an artificial glossy film. It simply restores and maintains the shine of factory-polished porcelain tile by removing limescale film and streaks that reduce surface brightness.
