How to protect an outdoor black concrete floor

3 June 2025

Discover how to protect a concrete floor with the company Pippolo. They recently completed a protective treatment on an outdoor black concrete floor, effectively demonstrating how to safeguard a concrete surface exposed to the elements in order to preserve its appearance and functionality over time.

All the steps

Deep Cleaning with VIACEM and Tynex Pad
The first step involved a thorough cleaning using VIACEM, a buffered acid specifically designed for deep cleaning of durable materials such as concrete. The product was applied with a Tynex pad, ideal for effectively removing dirt, construction residues, and surface efflorescence without damaging the structure of the material.

Treatment with TIM
Next, once the surface was completely dry, TIM was applied. This is a water- and oil-repellent protector that penetrates the material, drastically reducing its absorption of water and oily stains, thereby protecting the concrete from weathering and wear.

Finishing with PAV05
Finally, to complete the treatment, the company applied a uniform layer of PAV05, a wax specifically formulated for outdoor use and produced by Marbec. This product proved ideal for absorbent surfaces exposed to rain, sunlight, and dirt. In addition to providing protection, PAV05 gave the floor a matte, natural, and elegant look, enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the black concrete.

The Context: A Black Concrete Floor

The treated surface was exposed black concrete, a material with a modern and elegant appearance, but naturally porous and prone to:

  • Absorption of water and dirt;
  • Whitening and deterioration caused by sun exposure and humidity;
  • Challenges in daily maintenance if not properly protected.

Objectives of the Intervention

The company Pippolo approached the project with a clear strategy: to protect the surface while enhancing it, respecting its natural texture. The main objectives were:

  • Waterproof the surface to prevent infiltration and staining;
  • Revive the color of the black concrete without altering its original shade;
  • Provide a matte, non-slip finish suitable for outdoor use;
  • Make cleaning and long-term maintenance easier.

Why Choose PAV05

PAV05 is a water-based outdoor wax specifically formulated by Marbec to protect flooring made of:

  • Raw terracotta,
  • Concrete,
  • Natural stone,
  • Bricks and other porous materials.

Its main features:

  • Forms a thin, breathable film that is weather-resistant;
  • Does not yellow or create glossy or plastic-like surfaces;
  • Provides a satin, natural finish that enhances colors;
  • Makes future maintenance and cleaning operations easier.

The Result

The intervention concluded with the uniform application of the protective product on a clean and completely dry surface. The final result is a well-protected floor with a refreshed, matte finish that gives the black concrete an elegant and uniform appearance. Thanks to the treatment, the surface is now more resistant to water, dirt, and weather fluctuations, ensuring greater aesthetic and functional durability over time.
