Description

Waterproofing Floors Against Water Infiltration with ACQUABLOCK®

Water infiltration floor waterproofing is an effective solution for protecting floors affected by moisture penetration, surface porosity and micro-cracks. With ACQUABLOCK®, a professional consolidating water-repellent treatment, it is possible to block water infiltration at its source, reduce absorption and protect floors without demolition or invasive renovation work.

In many cases, infiltration does not depend on serious structural defects. Instead, it often comes from absorbent surfaces, worn joints or small surface fractures. For this reason, ACQUABLOCK® works particularly well on terraces, balconies, outdoor floors and damp indoor areas such as bathrooms.

Key Benefits of ACQUABLOCK®

ACQUABLOCK® creates an invisible chemical barrier that significantly reduces water absorption.
At the same time, it strengthens joints and restores material cohesion, improving surface durability.

Moreover, the treatment blocks water infiltration caused by surface cracks up to 1.5 mm and helps prevent efflorescence and algae formation.
It works on both indoor and outdoor surfaces, offering long-lasting protection.

In addition, ACQUABLOCK® resists aging, foot traffic and weather exposure.
Because it does not form surface films, it does not yellow and does not alter the original appearance.
As a result, the material keeps its natural vapor permeability.

For this reason, ACQUABLOCK® represents an ideal solution to avoid dismantling terraces, bathrooms and other infiltration-affected surfaces.

Suitable Surfaces

This treatment can be applied on:

  • Porcelain stoneware (polished, matt, textured, marble-effect, wood-effect, cement-effect)

  • Terracotta and clay tiles

  • Natural stone such as porphyry, travertine, slate and limestone

  • Marble and granite

  • Cement, micro-cement and cement-based aggregates

  • Mineral plasters and porous cement surfaces

When Waterproofing Against Infiltration Is the Right Choice

Waterproofing floors against infiltration is the right solution when water passes through micro-cracks under 1.5 mm, joints or porous materials.
In these situations, it is possible to stop infiltration without removing the flooring, by acting directly on material absorption.

Water Infiltration Caused by Micro-Cracks

Water infiltration represents one of the main causes of surface damage.
Over time, water enters through micro-cracks and joints, then accumulates beneath the floor.

As a result, surfaces may develop salt efflorescence, mould, detachment and damage to underlying layers.
However, a targeted treatment designed to protect floors from infiltration can solve the problem without invasive work.

Waterproofing Floors Without Demolition: How ACQUABLOCK® Works

ACQUABLOCK® penetrates deeply into the pores of the material and forms an internal, invisible barrier that greatly reduces water absorption.
Thanks to this action, floors can be waterproofed without demolition, while keeping both the aesthetic appearance and natural breathability unchanged.

Avoid Costly Renovations by Acting on Infiltration

By using ACQUABLOCK®, it becomes possible to eliminate floor infiltration and avoid expensive demolition or traditional waterproofing systems.
Therefore, this approach helps reduce costs, time and inconvenience, especially in residential environments.

Waterproofing Bathroom Floors Against Infiltration

ACQUABLOCK® is also suitable for bathroom floors, showers and wall coverings exposed to constant moisture.
The treatment protects surfaces without creating surface films, without changing colour or finish, and while maintaining vapor permeability.

Treatment Durability

Under normal conditions, ACQUABLOCK® provides protection for approximately 10 years.
However, effectiveness may decrease if structural movement creates new cracks.

In such cases, the treatment can be reapplied over time, without removing tiles or coverings.

When ACQUABLOCK® Is Not Enough

If cracks are wider than 1.5 mm, joints and fissures must be repaired before applying ACQUABLOCK®.

Incorrect Slopes and Water Stagnation

When infiltration results from incorrect slopes or persistent water stagnation, ACQUABLOCK® cannot solve structural issues.
In fact, the product works exclusively on material absorption, not on drainage defects.

Further Insights and Treatment Systems with ACQUABLOCK®

ACQUABLOCK® stands at the core of a treatment system designed to solve water infiltration on different surfaces without removing floors or coverings.
For this reason, Marbec provides technical guides and in-depth articles that explain how to intervene correctly based on the material.

Specific solutions cover:

  • Porcelain stoneware affected by micro-cracks and worn joints

  • Terracotta floors with high absorption

  • Marble, natural stone and granite requiring non-film-forming consolidating treatments

  • Cement floors, aggregates and terrazzo surfaces affected by porosity and micro-fractures

Moreover, Marbec offers educational content to help identify the causes of water infiltration in floors, terraces and showers, showing how to prevent structural damage and reduce renovation costs by acting directly on material absorption.

How to use

ACQUABLOCK® must be applied undiluted, on dry, clean and untreated surfaces.
Before application, ensure that the surface is completely free from dust, dirt, oils or residues from previous treatments.

Application Method

Apply the product using a brush, soft cloth or fleece applicator.

Distribute ACQUABLOCK® evenly, following the absorption of the material until the surface is fully saturated.

Pay particular attention to joints, grout lines and surface cracks, as these are the areas most exposed to water infiltration.

After 5–10 minutes, completely remove any excess product that has not been absorbed by wiping the surface with a dry soft cloth or absorbent paper.

Recommended Number of Coats

  • 1 coat on low-absorption stone and compact materials

  • 2 coats on absorbent stone and porous materials

👉 If a second coat is required, apply it wet on wet, as soon as the first coat is dry on the surface but still damp inside.

Drying and Protection

ACQUABLOCK® dries in approximately 6–8 hours.

Avoid exposure to rain or water for at least 24 hours after application.

Indicative Coverage

Coverage varies depending on the absorption of the material:

  • Marble, granite, porcelain stoneware and low-absorption materials:
    1 litre / 15–20 m²

  • Terracotta, natural stone, terrazzo, cement and absorbent materials:
    1 litre / 4–8 m²

What Is ACQUABLOCK® and What Is It Used For?

ACQUABLOCK® is a consolidating water-repellent anti-infiltration treatment specifically designed for stone materials such as marble, granite, travertine, natural stone, porcelain stoneware and terracotta.
It penetrates deeply into the material and forms an invisible chemical barrier that reduces water absorption without altering colour, finish or breathability, on both interior and exterior surfaces.

Why Use ACQUABLOCK® to Eliminate Water Infiltration?

ACQUABLOCK® is recommended to stop water infiltration caused by micro-cracks, deteriorated grout joints and porous materials, avoiding invasive interventions and costly replacement of floors and wall coverings.
It is easy to apply, offers an indicative durability of around 10 years, and can be reapplied over time if needed.

Is Surface Cleaning Required Before Applying ACQUABLOCK®?

Yes. If the surface is dirty, encrusted or if previous treatments are unknown, thorough cleaning is essential before application.
The use of SGRISER wax remover and DELICACID descaling cleaner, combined with a brown pad, is recommended to ensure proper product penetration.

Can ACQUABLOCK® Be Used on Interior Floors Affected by Moisture?

ACQUABLOCK® can be used on interior floors provided that the surface is completely dry before application and remains dry for at least two days afterwards.
The product acts on the absorption of the material, not on the structural source of moisture.

How Long Does the Treatment Last on Outdoor Surfaces Such as Terraces and Balconies?

When applied correctly and in the absence of structural movement that generates new cracks, ACQUABLOCK® can last many years, even decades.
If new surface fissures appear over time, the treatment can be reapplied without removing the existing flooring.

What Are the Benefits of Using ACQUABLOCK® as a Consolidating Water Repellent?

ACQUABLOCK® strengthens weakened stone materials, drastically reduces water absorption and helps prevent salt efflorescence, algae growth and surface deterioration.
It does not form surface films, does not alter the original appearance of the material and is easy to apply.
It is an effective solution for both protective treatments and conservative restoration of stone, terracotta and cement surfaces.

How Does ACQUABLOCK® Work Without Altering Surface Appearance?

ACQUABLOCK® uses deep-penetration technology that acts inside the pores of the material.
The water-repellent barrier is completely invisible, does not create surface films and preserves the natural breathability of the substrate, maintaining its original aesthetics.

When Is ACQUABLOCK® Recommended?

ACQUABLOCK® is recommended for terraces, balconies, outdoor floors and wall coverings exposed to rain and frost, as well as for humid indoor environments such as bathrooms and showers.
It is suitable when infiltration is caused by micro-cracks and material porosity, rather than serious structural issues.

Which Stone Materials Are Compatible with ACQUABLOCK®?

ACQUABLOCK® can be successfully used on marble, granite, travertine, natural stone, terracotta, porcelain stoneware, cement and terrazzo.
It is suitable for both professional applications and DIY users, provided the instructions are followed correctly.

How Does ACQUABLOCK® Prevent Infiltration and Reinforce Materials?

ACQUABLOCK® seals the internal pores of the material, reducing capillary water absorption while simultaneously consolidating the internal structure of the substrate.
This increases resistance to weather exposure and water stress, helping to prevent cracks, detachment and long-term degradation.
