# Terracotta treatment

In the historic center of Pistoia, Italy, inside a charming period building, a handmade antique terracotta floor underwent a highly specialized restoration process. At first glance, the surface looked heavily compromised. An old treatment had deteriorated over time and made the terracotta dark, uneven, and difficult to read. Therefore, simple cleaning was not enough. Instead, the situation required a precise technical intervention carried out by professionals who truly understand the material. For this reason, the work was carried out by Pippolo Company by Timpano Giuseppe, a company specialized in the professional restoration of historic terracotta floors.

The restoration of a flood-damaged Tuscan terracotta floor is a complex process that requires specific techniques and products. Impresa Pippolo di Timpano Giuseppe, specialised in the treatment of surfaces made of stone materials, carried out a targeted restoration operation, divided into two main phases: de-waxing and protective treatment.

The first phase involved removing old layers of wax and dirt residues with SGRISER, a powerful alkaline-solvent wax remover. Next, VIACEM, a buffered acid detergent, was used to remove cement slurries and salt efflorescence.
After thorough cleaning, EXCEL PLUS was applied, an anti-stain protective agent that penetrates deep into the terracotta without altering its breathability. To complete the treatment, a finish was applied with IDROFIN MATT, a matt wax that protects the surface and facilitates maintenance.

Thanks to the use of professional products and the experience of Impresa Pippolo di Timpano Giuseppe, the floor has regained its original beauty, becoming more resistant to wear and weathering. This type of treatment not only restores the aesthetics of the terracotta but also ensures its durability, reducing the need for future maintenance.
