Practical Guide: How to Clean Single-Fired and Double-Fired Ceramic Floors

Ceramic floor affected by limescale deposits and surface haze.

Routine cleaning of ceramic single-fired and double-fired floors is essential to keep surfaces clean, bright, and uniform over time. These materials, widely used in residential and commercial settings, are durable and easy to maintain. However, daily use can gradually reduce their shine due to the formation of surface water marks and limescale films.

Since ceramic is a non-absorbent material, the mineral salts contained in household water remain on the surface. As a result, especially in areas with hard water, floors may appear dull even immediately after washing. For this reason, it is important to adopt a specific routine cleaning system capable of cleaning effectively without damaging the glaze.

This practical guide explains when to intervene and, above all, how to properly clean single-fired and double-fired ceramic floors and wall coverings, avoiding common mistakes and maintaining results over time.

When to Perform Routine Cleaning

Routine cleaning is recommended:

  • for daily or frequent floor cleaning
  • when light water marks or dull areas appear
  • especially in environments with hard water
  • to keep grout joints clean over time

Type of treatment: continuous and repeatable.

Where It Can Be Applied

  • single-fired ceramic floors
  • double-fired ceramic floors
  • glazed ceramic wall coverings
  • indoor surfaces subject to frequent washing

Marbec Technician’s Advice

If single-fired or double-fired ceramic floors remain heavily marked by water stains or appear dull even after routine cleaning, this indicates the presence of a persistent surface film. In these cases, before continuing with routine maintenance, it is advisable to carry out an intensive cleaning treatment using DELICACID® and a RED BUFFER PAD.
Afterwards, routine cleaning with GRES BRILL® will help maintain the result over time and reduce the need for more aggressive restoration treatments.
