Do home wax removal remedies really work?

As for any type of stain, there is definitely a home method that grandmother will be able to recommend. Whether it is a marble floor, an external cotto flooring or a wooden table, you can find in the house some products that can help us in removing wax stains.

For example, to remove wax from marble, you can try heating the surface with boiling water or with a hair dryer. The candle wax, once heated, will return to liquid state and then can be removed with an absorbent cloth. Obviously if the wax had penetrated deep into the pores of the material, it will be impossible to remove it only by heating the surface! Instead, as for the cotto, you can try placing an ice cube on the stain and waiting for it to melt. At this point we grate the wax and wash the surface with soap and water. If this is not enough to remove candle wax from the floor, you will need to try specific professional products.

But why is it so difficult to remove candle wax stains? The wax contains oils and colored pigments that, once dissolved by the heat of the flame, can penetrate the natural pores and micro-cracks of porous floors such as marble, stone and cotto. This absorption can cause very stubborn stains. Moreover, wood, being an organic and porous material, easily absorbs wax, which can infiltrate the fibers and leave visible stains. Glossy surfaces, such as marble and treated wood, can also show streaks and waxy residues that compromise their aesthetics. In addition, the wax, once hardened, forms a film that can attract dirt and dust, making the stains even more noticeable and difficult to clean.

Stain removal and acid rinsing

SOLVOSILL is a specific stain remover to remove oil stains, candle wax and silicone from stone and wood surfaces. Its powerful dissolving action eliminates stains without leaving halos, even those present for a long time, and does not leave harmful residues in absorbent materials. Thanks to the microporous thickening material, the effectiveness of the product can be prolonged over time. However, it is not suitable for use on synthetic terrazzo, synthetic grouts and resinated surfaces.

Before application, SOLVOSILL must be mixed well to obtain a fluid paste and then the product can be applied with a spatula, leaving a layer of 3-5 mm on the stained surface. Cover the entire stained element and, if necessary, increase the duration of the action by covering it with a plastic sheet. Allow the wrap to dry for 12-24 hours, then remove it dry with a nylon brush or broom brush. With this method the candle wax stains will finally be removed from the floors!

Application of the protective: prevent wax stains!

TIM – Water repellent anti-stain protective

TIM is a water-based, anti-stain water-repellent protective, specific for absorbent stone materials, such as cotto, natural absorbent stone, cement, mineral plaster. Unlike other treatments, TIM is easy to apply and does not release unpleasant odors. It is normally used as the basis of wax treatments because it has a high chemical inertia and resistance to atmospheric agents and trampling. In addition, it eliminates or drastically reduces the absorption of water and liquids, fatty substances and oils in the material and counteracts the formation of saline efflorescence, crusts, patinas, algae, etc.

EXCEL PLUS – Oil repellent anti-stain protective

It is an oil-repellent protective for the stain-resistant treatment of absorbent stone materials, such as cotto, absorbent stone, plasters, cement and terrazzo placed indoors and outdoors. The strength of this product is its special water-based formulation, which makes it odorless, not dangerous and easy to use, even by novice people in floor maintenance. EXCEL PLUS works by eliminating or drastically reducing the absorption capacity of liquid and fat substances. Moreover, it does not form superficial films, is invisible and does not alter the appearance of the material and the color tone over time. This product is suitable for all absorbent stone materials, both indoors and outdoors. When used outdoors it gives a strong anti-stain and self-cleaning protection with rains with a high chemical inertia and resistance to atmospheric agents and trampling.

GUARD – Oil repellent anti-stain protective

GUARD is also a stain-resistant oil-repellent protection, but it is more suitable for compact and poorly absorbent stone materials, such as internal and external marble, granite, polished terrazzo. GUARD forms an oleophobic chemical barrier, but does not form films or surface patinas, is invisible and does not alter the appearance of the material and the color tone over time. Just like EXCEL PLUS, this product is also water based and for this reason it is odorless and not dangerous or toxic for people and the environment.

ACTIV3 – Water repellent anti-stain protective

ACTIV3 is a protective for water-repellent and stain-resistant treatment for absorbent stone materials, such as cotto, natural absorbent stone, cement. This protective eliminates or drastically reduces the absorption of water and liquids, fatty substances and oils in the material, but at the same time it is breathable, thus retaining the original permeability of water vapor surfaces. In addition, ACTIV3 avoids and counteracts rising humidity (and consequently the formation of saline efflorescence, crusts, patinas, algae, etc.). In addition to this, ACTIV3 does not create films or patinas on the surface and has a high resistance to weathering and trampling.

2 March 2026 Sodium Percarbonate: What It Is and How to Use It at Home
Sodium percarbonate is a water-soluble powder widely used to remove stains, whiten laundry, and support hygienic cleaning on fabrics and washable household surfaces. When dissolved in water, it releases oxygen. This reaction helps break down stains and organic residues in a simple and effective way. If you often deal with yellowed white clothes, stains that remain even after washing, bins that keep unpleasant smells, shower curtains with marks, or surfaces dulled by residues and streaks, you are probably looking for exactly this kind of solution. However, sodium percarbonate is not designed for heavy degreasing. If you need to remove thick grease layers or stubborn encrustations, a dedicated degreasing detergent will work better.
