Teak parquet restoration: how to renew a scratched floor

17 November 2025

Teak parquet is one of the most elegant and durable wooden floors. It stands out for its warm tones and its ability to enhance any interior. Over time, however, daily wear can dull its shine. It can also highlight superficial scratches and create visibly faded areas.

In this article, we’ll explain how to restore worn teak parquet using a sequence of Marbec professional products. With the right combination of cleaning, fiber reactivation, and protective regeneration, you can recover the floor’s appearance, color, and gloss. All of this is possible without sanding.

The restoration showcased here was carried out by Emilia e Pippo, a company specializing in post-construction and post-renovation cleaning, deep cleaning, post-painting cleaning, move-in/move-out services, and specific treatments for absorbent and microporous surfaces.
Thanks to their precision and expertise, the parquet—severely marked by time—was restored to its original brilliance.

Initial Assessment: A Teak Parquet Worn by Time

The floor showed widespread superficial scratches and visible whitening in high-traffic areas. Moreover, the glossy finish had become dull and uneven.

In these situations, the goal is not to remove the scratch itself. Instead, the purpose is to mask it optically and reduce the bright contrast that forms where the surface film is damaged.
The products used do not eliminate the physical groove in the varnish; however, they rebuild and even out the finish, making the scratches far less visible and restoring overall chromatic uniformity.

Restoration Steps

1.Deep Cleaning and Stain Removal

The first step consisted of removing the aged patina covering the varnish.
SMACCHIO LEGNO was applied to the surface and kept wet for about 20 minutes to allow the product to penetrate the superficial film.
While still damp, the floor was vigorously scrubbed using a blue pad, effectively removing oxidation, dirt, and accumulated residues.
The area was then rinsed thoroughly with clean water.

2.Fiber Reactivation and Surface Smoothing

Once dry, an abrasive wood pad was used to level the fiber “pelo” and refine the finish.
This step reduced the perception of micro-scratches and prepared the surface for the final regenerative phases, ensuring uniform absorption of the protective products.

3.Final Cleaning and Neutralization

A neutralizing wash was then performed using PULIBRILL, diluted in water (100–200 ml per liter).
The solution was applied with a microfiber cloth and worked with a melamine pad, ideal for removing alkaline residues and restoring a perfectly neutral surface.
After a final rinse, the teak parquet was fully cleaned, degreased, and ready for the protective treatment.

4.Protective Regeneration

On a dry surface, apply RISANA PARQUET in small quantities and spread it evenly until the wood fully absorbs it.
The floor must look slightly moist—not wet—to allow the product to penetrate properly into the varnish layer.
During this phase, the product nourishes the finish, revives the warm tone of the teak, and reduces surface dryness.
Within minutes, the parquet reveals a more uniform and vibrant appearance.

5.Restoring the Glossy Finish

Once the first treatment dried, LIGNOLIFE—a glossy regenerating finish for varnished wood—was applied.
After shaking the product, it was distributed in thin layers with a soft cloth, following the wood grain.
A second light coat was applied after approximately 3 hours to complete the protection.
The surface was left to dry for 12–24 hours before normal foot traffic.

The result was a shiny, brilliant, and fully protected teak parquet, with scratches visually minimized and the natural color enhanced.

Maintenance over time

To preserve the restored look over time, it is recommended to:

  • perform weekly cleaning with PULIBRILL (10–15 ml per liter of water), applied with a microfiber cloth
  • refresh the finish 1–2 times a year using BEAUTY FLOOR, which maintains gloss, protection, and overall uniformity

The work carried out by Emilia e Pippo demonstrates that a worn, dull, or scratched teak parquet can be completely renewed without sanding, simply by following the right sequence of cleaning, reactivation, and protective finishing.
The final result is an elegant, durable, and bright floor that highlights the natural beauty of teak while ensuring easy maintenance over time.

29 October 2025 Restoration and enhancement of a terrazzo floor
The artisan company PIPPOLO, specialized since 1991 in the treatment of stone materials in the Tuscany–Emilia region, carried out a restoration and enhancement of a terrazzo floor. The work included three main phases: a deep cleaning with SGRISER and a red pad to remove old treatments and incrustations; the hydrophobic protection with TON PLUS to prevent the absorption of liquids and revive the colors; and finally, the finishing with POLIFIN, a self-polishing metallized wax that provides brilliance and resistance to foot traffic. The result is a terrazzo floor that is renewed, luminous, and perfectly protected.

Stone, a symbol of memory and endurance, changes over time and requires care. Products like TIXO and PULITORE FC gently remove smog and dirt, while ACTIV 3 restores and protects surfaces. Metals too, prone to oxidation, need specific cleaners that preserve their shine. Regular maintenance keeps the beauty and value of stones and monuments intact over time — a gesture of respect and remembrance.
24 June 2025 How to Remove Mould and Lichens from Outdoor Terracotta: Intervention in a Villa in Tuscany with ALGANET®
In a villa located in the Tuscan countryside, a restoration was carried out on an outdoor terracotta floor, which had deteriorated due to mould, lichens, moss, and black stains caused by moisture. The main goal was to effectively remove mould and lichens and protect the material over time. During the cleaning phase, the team used ALGANET®—a professional stain remover specifically formulated to eliminate biological colonies from terracotta and stone surfaces. The treatment successfully removed even the most stubborn encrustations without damaging the material. Afterwards, they applied TIM®—a transparent and breathable protective product designed to prevent the future formation of mould, stains, and new lichens. This product has the advantage of preserving the aesthetic appearance of terracotta while maintaining its breathability. The final result is a fully restored terracotta surface: clean, protected, easy to maintain, and resistant to atmospheric agents. This intervention stands as a concrete example of how to remove mould and lichens in a long-lasting and professional way, thanks to Marbec products.
